Dr Muhammad Zahid Latif is the Professor of Community Medicine Department & Director, Department of Medical Education at Azra Naheed Medical College Lahore. He is also working as the Editor, South Asian Journal of Medical Sciences (SAJMS). He completed his school and college education with distinction, got admission in Quaid-e Azam Medical College Bahawal pur and earned MBBS in 1998. After completing house job, he opted medical teaching and joined as a faculty member at Riphah International University. Later on, he joined institute of Public Health for Post- Graduation and completed it in 2004. As a lifelong and passionate leaner, he joined the pioneer batch of Master in Medical Education and completed the degree with medal. Later on, he completed his PhD in Public Health. He is a teacher, trainer and researcher in the field of public Health Practice, Epidemiology & Medical Education. As a researcher, he has more than 40 publications in national and international Journals, delivered talks in multiple scientific events and presented papers in conferences. He is the regular facilitator of Faculty Development Program and conducted numerous workshops regarding teaching & learning, assessment and research. He is a dynamic personality, having clear concepts of life, committed to uplift the society with professionalism, morality and ethics-based education

He is a distinguished and highly accomplished professional with an extensive background in community medicine. His academic journey began at Punjab Medical College, Faisalabad, where he graduated in 1980 with the first batch. After graduation, he served in the Pakistan Army until 1983. In 1984, he was selected by the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) as a Demonstrator at the Institute of Public Health (IPH), Lahore. Throughout his career, Dr. Shahid Mahmood demonstrated exceptional dedication to education and research. He obtained a Diploma in Public Health (DPH) from Punjab University in 1985 and was subsequently appointed as an Assistant Professor in Community Medicine at Allama Iqbal Medical College (AIMC), Lahore, in 1991. Over the course of 13 years at AIMC, he fulfilled various academic and administrative roles. In 2002, Dr. Mahmood earned the prestigious FCPS in Community Medicine from the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP). His career continued to progress as he was promoted to Associate Professor of Commu- nity Medicine at King Edward Medical University Lahore in 2004. Later, in 2009, he assumed the position of Profes- sor and became the first Head of the Department of Community Medicine at Services Institute of Medical Sciences. Since 2014, Dr. Shahid Mahmood has been serving as the Head of the Department of Community Medicine at Azra Naheed Medical College, Lahore, where he was the first professor in this capacity. With an impressive 38 years of teaching experience in community medicine, he has mentored numerous students and researchers in the field. His passion for research is evident from his 22 publications in various esteemed medical journals. Dr. Mahmood has actively participated in numerous training workshops on topics like COME, PBL, and Proposal Development for research, collaborating with local and international agencies. Furthermore, he served as the Principal Investigator for a community-based study sponsored by the Applied Diarrheal Diseases Research project of Harvard Institute for International Development (ADDR-HIID) under US AID. Dr. Shahid Mahmood’s dedication to community medicine and his expertise in research proposal development and community-based research make him an invaluable asset to the medical community. His willingness to take on curricular and co-curricular assignments entrusted by the administration showcases his sense of responsibility and commitment to the betterment of medical education and research.
